Our last day and a trip to César Manrique Foundation (now a museum). On the way we stopped off to photograph a large hole in the side of a volcano and drove passed a windfarm which was being constructed.

César Manrique was an artist who was born in Lanzarote and travelled extensively. He decided to return to Lanzarote1968 from New York and stayed here until his untimely death in 1988 in a car accident. His sculptural works can be see all over the Island on roundabouts and at points of interest. A lot of the sculptures are wind powered and very modernistic in appearance. The museum was once his house which he designed and built on a lava field and incorporates some of the lava formations in the construction. The gardens around the house are tremendous and complement the house. The house itself is on several levels and includes a swimming pool in the lower level accessed by a spiral staircase.

After spending the morning wandering around the museum and gardens we headed to Costa Teguise for some lunch. To say we were not impressed by Costa Teguise is an understatement. It seemed to be the playground of the typical holiday maker looking for fish and chips and cold beers. The holiday makers seemed to travel by either double invalid buggies or 4 seat pedal buggies! However we did find an excellent restaurant which had steak with strawberry sauce on the menu. It was delicious. It was a bit incongruous to see a snowman perched on the edge of the swimming pool next to the restaurant

We just sat by the pool after we got back to the villa in the afternoon and then shot the last sunset of this trip before packing and then driving back to the airport the following morning and flying back to chilly Bristol.
