Back to California Gallery Page <—————->Next to Day 13
Before breakfast, we left the hotel and went to Paradise Cove. There was an American TV programme called the Rockford Files, staring James Garner which was made in the 70s, Carole was a big fan when it was shown on British TV and in the series, Jim Rockford’s Trailer Home was parked in the car park of Paradise Cove. We just had to go and see where it was.
We had been the day before but noticed the exorbitant car parking charges, so we parked on the verge on PCH1 and walked down to the car park. A very pleasant 500 metre walk in the early morning. We took some photos and then went back to the hotel and had breakfast.
Myself, I was not impressed with Paradise Cove, very tired looking and in need of a lot of TLC. The prices to park were prohibitive unless you spent $30 in the café when it was reduced somewhat.
After breakfast we checked out of the Malibu Country Inn and headed South down PCH 1 towards San Diego. Stopping at North Beach, San Clemente for lunch. We made it to the Ocean Beach Hotel, San Diego in time to get on the beach for the sunset. I did manage a couple of shots of the pier and surfers, however the sunset was a bit disappointing .
The Ocean Bay area of San Diego, is not a pleasant place, there appeared to be a lot of hobos and pot smokers on the front and the hotel did not really rate as 4 star as advertised. The room was quite small with a balcony over looking the pier and beach, but the problem was that there was a noisy, glass fronted, fridge with a light permanently on, opposite the bed. Even with a coat over it to stop the light, the noise kept us awake most of the night, so much so that we checked out the following morning (with a refund for the second night we had booked) to find somewhere more suitable for our second night.

Paradise Cove car park. The area where the surfboards are now, was where Jim Rockford’s Caravan stood for the filming of the Rockford Files in the 1970s.
I found that Paradise Cove was far from paradise and lots of rules.
