We arrived the evening before and this was our first full day in Iceland and a day before the photography course with Nigel Hicks photography starts so we had a wander around Reykjavik harbour and the town. The map shows the route we took to get to the far side of the harbour to see the Þúfa (Th-oo-fha) art installation. The remaining photos in the gallery are pictures taken on the walk and then after, when we headed into the centre to photograph the main church and the Sun Voyager, a sculpture of a Viking Ship.
“Looking Seawards”. This bonze sculpture by Ingi Þ. Gíslason depicts two men, life-sized, wearing long coats and mittens. It was erected to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Port of Reykjavik and the 60th National Seamen’s Day in 1997.
The outdoor art piece “Þúfa” stands on a small cape on the edge of the harbour. This is our walking destination today.

We have reached our destination! The outdoor art piece “Þúfa” (pronounced TH-OO-FHA) Designed by artist Ólöf Nordal, Þúfa references simpler times. On top of the small hill is shed for wind-drying fish, an old way of getting by on this island in the North-Atlantic. According to the artist, Þúfa is a place for inner peace and meditation within the city.
